Word of the Day: SPLACKAVELLIE

"Splackavellie" describes a man that women use for pleasure uncomplicated by relationship matters. When a woman's man isn't treating her right, her "Splackavellie" can "WORK IT all night...until the morning light".

It derives from the words "Splack" and "Machiavelli". I'll say no more...

Still Ridin' That Pony

Good to see Ginuwine still flexing the same look in 09.

Remarkable

This Jaheim fashion reference just made me spit my earl grey out:

".....Iceberg fittin' wallabies, sit by me real casually"......

No official video, but this one I found made me spit my earl grey out again. This girl really means it.....her eyes actually role back into her head at approx 1:24mins.

Feenin

Possibly the best R&B word ever.

NAF NAF

Another epic brand lost in the 90s. Founded in 1973 they brought sassy stationary and puffer jackets to schools across the land.
Picture 2

Not to mention "A touch of NAF NAF" one of my early fragrances of choice.
Picture 5

Think twice spotted this yellow number for me on the market just in time for WORK IT on Saturday....

The polka dot infused label stitched on the back left me feenin (ha) for more. Sunday morning I was on ebay just in time to get this brown suede beauty - waiting for me bid-less with just 8minutes to spare.

Gots To Have

Great short film about Avid Collectors of Baseball cards, as seen on unkut. Check the some of the prices on those shits! Got to love that collector mentality, shout out to the guy who opens his cards with a bottle of wine.

I was more of a Panini man myself, I've still got a half finished old secret wars sticker book somewhere, and a spare Bryan Robson swappsie.

WORK IT 1st Birthday — Video

Here it is, the video from our 1st Birthday.
Much love goes to James Forbes-Robertson and Lily Smith from Colonel Blimp for all their hard work filming and editing.

25. Guuuuuurrrrrrllllll

Ok I think I'm a bit late on this one, but I've watched it about 20 times and it is not getting tired. Think my personal choice would have to be No. 22. CONGRATULASHAYLA.

Ragga Mix / Rodigan / Babylon

It's all about Rodigan this Thursday at the Shacklewell Arms. Make sure you get down to it. WORK IT are playing a special set, so I thought is only right to drop some gems on you in anticipation.

Here is a 40 min. RAGGA MIX I made a while back around the time Beenie Man & Buju were stopped from performing in the UK.
The mix is titled 'Banned in Brighton', for obvious reasons...
Download it for free here

Babylon directed by Franco Rosso in 1980 is perhaps one of the most important films of the period:
"Not because of its enormous budget (it was made for around £350,000), or for its star studded line-up (all the actors were relatively unknown to a wider audience) but because it was one of only a handful of British films that recognises that socially, racially and cinematically, there is more to living in this country than yet another period drama."

Babylon is set in South London at the beginning of the Thatcher era, involving two competing reggae sound systems, racism, fanaticism, unemployment. After having short cinema screening upon release, it was never commercially available on VHS or otherwise until Raro Video released an offical DVD a year or so ago.

If your interested in watching the film, then I would recommend forgetting the official release
and having a dig around for this:

This DVD is the fully uncut version, and well worth looking for.

Here's the Babylon trailer:

Hip House

Excellent documentry on Hip House from Chi-Town, check the Dookie gold chain and the Travel Fox kicks!

I never got into Hip House, shit was weak. But i did read an interesting article on it once, saying how in the late 80's HipHop was being banded from clubs in Chicago due to violence, and Hip House nights took off from the back of that and BBoys went there to dance instead.

Here is (as far as I know) one of the first, i not the first Hip House tracks released:

Mr. Freeze (ft. Daddy O & Delite from STETSASONIC) - Back to the Scene of the Crime (POW WOW 1986) Produced by Arthur Baker

Smell the 90s for just £9.99

Hackney post office has an unexpected collection of reasonably priced fragrances, I wonder if they have been there since 93?
